Wundergound is bringing back the true colors of Brussel. Exactly 6 months after the attacks in the Brussels airport and metro, MIVB / STIB (the Brussels metro service) organised the very first Brussels underground art festival. This coincided with the metro’s 40th anniversary. The Brussels underground got shaped by local Belgian and European artists who, together, created the biggest Art Gallery of Brussels.
Wunderground goes from visual arts to dance performance, theater, music on to cinema. The Wunderground artists include Charlemagne Palestine, Jacques Charlier, Nairone, Les Ballets Confidentiels, Maen Florin, Friends are Magic, Cinematek, ATK! and many more. The festival itself got shaped together with Gent based Curator and Art critic Charlotte van Buylaere.
This event became the main initiative to put the underground and Brussels in a brighter light and show the locals and the world again what brussels is all about.
