Advertising. It's everywhere. Whether on TV, billboards, buses or even inside public washrooms, modern advertisers use every space imaginable to compete for our attention and dollars. Launching next year, Canadians are about to start seeing ads in yet another, unexpected place: On all Canadian coins and bills.
Royal Canadian Mint spokesperson, Randall Singh, made the announcement this week during his interview with Peter Oldring of This is That:
"No one uses cash anymore, so we needed to find a way for the mint to offset the cost of producing money. Selling ad space was our only option."

When asked if he thought it was tacky to replace iconic Canadian symbols with ads, Singh responded, "I can assure you these ads will be done tastefully. For example, Delta Airlines has expressed interest in replacing the Bluenose on our dime with an image of one of their planes."
